Reynolds Whatley is the Southeastern Regional Director for AFG Settlement Planning. Reynolds joined AFG because his business owner and attorney clients expressed a desire for comprehensive planning in complex areas such as trust services, wealth preservation, government benefit protection, and Medicare secondary payer compliance.
Reynolds’ comprehensive financial planning expertise complements his knowledge of the aforementioned services. Without proper planning and professional guidance, many families are at risk of being taken advantage of and losing what they have worked so hard for. Reynolds began his career in the settlement planning business in 2004 when an attorney asked for help creating an income stream for his disabled claimant. Reynolds began working with those injured as a result of auto accidents, defective products, wrongful death actions, and mass tort actions. Attorneys now rely on Reynolds to attend mediations, listen to their clients express unique wants and needs, educate them about the options available, and craft personalized plans for their clients.
Business owners appreciate Reynolds’ attention to detail regarding areas of planning including employee retention, business continuation, and wealth transfer. In regard to financial planning philosophy, Reynolds believes obtaining a sound defensive planning strategy is paramount to allowing his clients to pursue more aggressive offensive strategies.
Reynolds was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and is fortunate to have lots of extended family in town. First attending Western State College of Colorado, Reynolds finished at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a minor in Spanish and major in International Political Science. His sales career began in 1994 when a local manufacturer courted Reynolds, while he was still attending school. In 1997, at age 26, he made the transition to financial services where he began building his planning practice. Through his work with business owners and attorneys, he has earned numerous company and industry awards for planning excellence. Reynolds has developed a unique understanding of the medical, emotional, and financial needs of injury victims inside and outside of litigation.
Outside of professional duties, Reynolds enjoys most anything outdoors:exercising, fishing, and volunteering time with various organizations. While having the privilege of assisting injury victims and loving his work in the settlement planning business, Reynolds believes that giving without the chance of receiving in return is life’s ultimate gift.
